To date, the Chiren storage facility is filled to 67% of its technical capacity, and at the rate at which pumping is going, it is likely that we will reach the EU regulation target of 80% capacity by the end of October.

This was stated by the director of Bulgartransgaz, Vladimir Malinov, in the program "Speak Now" on BNT.

"The most important thing is to store the quantities for the autumn-winter season in Chiren, because then the consumption increases significantly and Chiren significantly affects the whole mix," he said.

Currently, the technical capacity of the storage before the expansion plans allows us to extract 4-4.5 million cubic meters per day in case of force majeure.

This is about 15-16% of the capacity, Malinov specified.

The Minister of Energy: There is no one to buy the expensive gas from the tanker delivered for September

The expansion of the repository has been approved by the European Commission, which has allocated financial support in the amount of 78 million euros.

"Bulgartransgaz" is currently conducting talks about the rest of the financing with various institutions, including state financial funds from the USA, the director of the company also said.

"This gives us the strength and confidence that we are working in the right direction. Last but not least, if we want to really achieve diversification of sources and enable liquefied natural gas to play a significant role in Bulgaria's gas mix, we need storage." , comments Vladimir Malinov.

The final completion of the project and its commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2024, which is in sync with the commissioning of the LNG terminal in Alexandroupolis, which is due to become operational at the beginning of the same year.

Malinov is convinced that the interconnector with Greece will be operational from October 1 and Bulgaria will receive all the agreed quantities of gas from Azerbaijan.

"I want to reassure that within the framework of 2022, we have carried out all the necessary actions to connect the IGB project to our gas transmission system. The project is connected, it has been tested, we have managed to carry out, including the transfer of natural gas from our network to the interconnector. This gives me confidence that in fact October 1 is a real date," he stated.

The director of "Bulgartransgaz" believes that our country will cope with the provision of natural gas during the winter months.

He confirmed that gas is being transferred from Bulgaria to Romania, without specifying whether it is Russian.

Vladimir Malinov also said that currently Bulgaria reports a record low consumption of gas for the last 10 years - our daily consumption during the summer season is about 4 million cubic meters, while last years it was between 6-7 million cubic meters.
