Tourism in Cyprus has passed another stage in its recovery, with revenues reaching pre-pandemic levels.

It is possible that the island will also welcome Russian tourists this summer, although a small number due to the imposed European sanctions, BNR informs.

More than 185 million euros were the revenues from tourism in Cyprus in April, the Statistical Office announced.

This is only 1.5 million euros less than in the best year for Cyprus tourism in 2019 and almost 6 times more than April last year.

Revenues for the first four months exceeded EUR 320 million, representing over 85% of the financial results for the same period of 2019.

Tourist arrivals in the first half of the year exceeded 1 million, said Deputy Minister of Tourism Savvas Perdios.

According to him, the success in revenue growth in the sector is due to the attraction of new tourist markets and more paying guests.

At the same time, it is possible for some of the Russian tourists to return to the island, it became clear from an announcement by the Association of Tour Operators in Russia about the start of sales of vacation packages to Cyprus for the period from July 23 to October 26.

Due to European sanctions on Russian airlines, Russian tourists will fly 9 hours from Moscow to Larnaca via Yerevan.
