According to the report, there is a huge gap in household wealth between rural and urban areas.

New Delhi:

A report of the PM Economic Advisory Council has been released regarding the situation of inequality in the country.

The purpose of this report is to assist the government in formulating a reform strategy and roadmap for social progress and shared prosperity in the country.

The Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) has released a report on the state of inequality in India, suggesting that the government should introduce a guaranteed employment program for the urban unemployed and a universal basic income to bridge the income gap. Planning should start.

The report states that the top 1 percent of the country's population holds 5-7 percent of the total income earned.

At the same time, about 15 percent of the working population earn less than ₹ 5,000 (about $ 64) per month.

While those earning an average of ₹ 25,000 per month fall in the top 10 per cent of the total salary bracket, which is around 30-35 per cent of the total income.

It is clear from the report that the top 1 percent in India shows an increase in income while the income of the bottom 10 percent is declining. According to the NFHS 2015-16 data, there is a huge gap in household wealth between rural and urban areas. The difference is.

Notably, more than 50 percent of households fall in the lower proportion of wealth concentration (about 54.9 percent).

Due to which inequality in India is clearly visible.

India aims to become a $5 trillion economy, but this inequality can be judged by how far a country is in achieving its social progress and development goals.

The top one percent people have 22 percent income, the affluent 10 percent have 57 percent of the total national income, while on the other hand, 50 percent, that is, half of the total population, have 13 percent of the income.

The government may have rejected this report, but the tragedy of the corona epidemic and the story of unemployed people is telling a different story.

The report said that "Given the difference between labor force participation rates in rural and urban areas, it is our understanding that schemes like MGNREGA should be implemented in urban areas as well."

Actually MGNREGA is a demand driven scheme and similar guaranteed employment should be offered in cities to accommodate surplus labour.'

Let us tell you that this report has been prepared by Gurgaon-based Institute for Competitiveness and it was released by Bibek Debroy, Chairman of Economic Advisory Council on Wednesday.
