The reason for this is that the Russian authorities have frozen the accounts in a Russian bank of the Russian division of Google and so the company could not pay for the operation of its Russian office, including salaries of staff and suppliers, as well as cover other financial obligations.

Google, which had previously suspended its operations in Russia, had said it would continue to provide free services there, including through the search engine, YouTube, email Gmail, Google Maps, the Android operating system and its Google Play app store.
