Rahul Dravid told how Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer will return to Team India.
New Delhi:
Due to not getting the central contract from BCCI, there is a lot of speculation about the future of Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer.
Ishan has not played cricket since withdrawing from the two-Test series against South Africa but he has been seen preparing for the IPL with Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya at a private center in Baroda.
Ishan stayed away from Ranji even after Indian cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid and BCCI asked him to play domestic cricket.
On the other hand, despite BCCI's instructions to play domestic cricket, Shreyas did not play the Ranji quarter-finals for Mumbai citing back pain.
He played the semi-final against Tamil Nadu and was seen in the final against Vidarbha on Sunday.
In such a situation, due to the board not believing that they were innocent, both these players did not get a place in the central contract.
Now Indian cricket team's head coach Rahul Dravid has broken his silence on this matter and has told how both the players can make a comeback in Team India.
"I don't decide contracts. Contracts are decided by the selectors and the board. I don't even know what the criteria are. I am involved in it - people ask me," Rahul Dravid said in the press conference after India's win in the Dharamsala Test. They ask my opinion on the final 15, and Rohit and I select the playing XI. That's how it works."
Rahul Dravid further said, “We never discussed whether someone has a contract or not, whether he will be selected in the 15 or not. There are many examples where players are playing in different formats of the game, Whether they have a contract or not. Sometimes I don't even know who is in the list of contracted players, when we take these decisions, the 15 or the final 11 is discussed."
Rahul Dravid further said, "Nobody is out of the picture. The doors are open for every cricketer playing domestic cricket. It is a matter of coming back fit and forcing the selectors to select him again."
After winning the Test series against England 4-1, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah launched the Test Cricket Incentive Scheme.
Dravid expressed hope that the players will not see it as another means of making money but as a reward for their hard work.
He said, "I hope that Test cricket will not be played to make money. This is a reward for how difficult Test cricket is and how much hard work it takes to play it. I am glad that BCCI has started this. "This is not an allowance but a reward."
