The Ministry of Youth and Sports provides BGN 2,000,000 more for student sports in 2024, or a total funding of over BGN 3,000,000. The planned measures aim to encourage children from kindergartens, students of all educational levels, students and children at risk to physical activity and practice sports as a means of a healthy lifestyle and to provide opportunities for choice and access to sports activities and appearance, announced the press center of the MMC.
Among the main activities that are financed by the MMC under this line are the organization and holding of the School Games in the academic year 2023/2024. BGN 1,084,730 has been earmarked for them.
Compared to the previous year, the funds for the realization of the games are 50% more, as the funding for the fees of judges, medical and officials, for the boarding house of the participants in the final competitions, and for organizational costs has been increased.
A new moment is the inclusion of students from the XI-XII grades in the individual sports of the School Games.
The games competitions in 8 types of sports, which are the most popular sports event for schoolchildren, include approximately 80,000 participants annually from three age groups - V-VII, VIII-X and XI-XII classes.
This year, the team of Minister Dimitar Iliev also formed a new policy for the development and popularization of sports for students.
In this regard, the new "Sports Hour" Program was developed and approved, for which a budget of BGN 1,000,000 is planned. Its activities will be implemented in the academic year 2024/2025, and conditions will be created for organizing and conducting sports activities with physical exercises and sports in educational institutions - kindergartens, schools, universities.
Beneficiaries of the program are sports clubs by type of sport and multi-sport clubs for the development of more than one sport, practiced on a unifying principle - for learners and students, members of licensed sports federations.
Partners in the program are educational institutions - state, municipal and private kindergartens, schools and universities in the country, and the sports activities will be held on the territory of the educational institutions.
With "Sporten Chas" conditions are created for the selection of talented children for inclusion in systematic activities by type of sport in the sports clubs that partner with the schools under the program.
Every year, the MMC develops, approves and finances the "Program for the development of sports for students", which supports the implementation of projects of licensed multi-sport federations for organizing and conducting sports competitions and events at the national level and the participation in national and international competitions of students.
The funds provided by the MMC for the program in 2024 are BGN 600,000, which is more than 70% more than the funding provided so far.

The sports organizations executing projects under the program have planned the scope of more than 10,000 participants in 47 sports competitions and events from the state sports calendars and more than 130 participants in 9 international sports events included in the international sports calendars of the federations.
The program includes participation in 4 international sports events for students organized by the International School Sports Federation (ISF) - three world student championships for boys and girls in the sports of basketball, volleyball and football, and participation in the World Summer School Games for students up to 18 years in the sports of athletics and table tennis among juniors and girls.
The basketball teams of 35 SEU "Dobri Voynikov" - Sofia (girls) and PPMG "Nancho Popovich" - Shumen (juniors) will take part in the events, the volleyball teams of 22 SEU "G.
S. Rakovski" - Sofia (girls) and 97 SU "Bratya Miladinovi" - Sofia (juniors), and the football team of the State Football Association "Simeon Radev" - Pernik.
Teams from MG "Dr. Petar Beron" - Varna, First Language High School - Varna and SU "Nikolai Katranov" - Svishtov will participate in the World Summer School Games.
The funds in the amount of BGN 123,000, provided by the MMC for the participation in these events, have been determined to pay for the stay of the participants from the listed schools and for the participation fee in the competitions.
Additional funds are provided for the purchase of representative teams of the participants.
The position of the team of Minister Dimitar Iliev is to continue providing strong support to children for participation in world school competitions, another opportunity to create positive examples for students and champions for Bulgaria.
