The Regional Transfusion Hematology Center in Pleven is in urgent need of blood donors.

The number of blood donors is falling dramatically everywhere.

"There is no blood. Hospitals that open up want to receive clinical paths, a resource from the Health Fund. However,

there are 170,000 blood donors

(for the whole country - note ed.). We cannot exceed them.

An operation requires blood

."

Dr. Nikolay Andreev, director of the Regional Center for Transfusion Hematology in Pleven, commented on this before BNR.

He defines the situation as critical.

He reports that the number of hospitals is growing, and that of blood donors is decreasing.

For Plevensko, in the past 2-3 years, there were 8,800 blood donors.

94 percent of them are close to patients

, "placed in chess", says Dr. Andreev.

"We go to enterprises, we go to the director: "Please, let our people donate blood, let's campaign!", "Oh, no, you can't, Dr. Andreev!" He asked his people, they said: "Now we can't let's give".

When 4-5 days of holidays come, my hair stands on end because people are driving

their cars like crazy, driving to the emergency room and we have no blood? Now we are left with two bags of A positive.

We just have no blood!

There is also no central blood center. It just has nowhere to come from."

According to Dr. Nikolay Andreev,

the mentality of the Bulgarian is - the state is obliged

, but it is not obliged.

That's why the doctor calls - donate blood now, because after a while you will need it - there is nowhere for this blood to come from.

"The mentality of a Bulgarian is not to help", he makes a pessimistic assessment.

For Pleven and the region, a minimum of 50 people a day should donate

, calculated the director of the regional center for transfusion hematology.

"

When the loved ones are put on the shelf

, those outside are only waiting for that," says Dr. Andreev about the blood black market.

"They are waiting for someone close to them. The doctor told you - donate blood. You say - but I have money, why not give it to someone who wants to donate blood for a fee? That's what they are waiting for. And they start haggling.

This is not a black market . It's a bargain

. The centers—none of us are involved in that."

Dr. Nikolay Andreev admits that he has donated blood 35 times and adds that there are people who have donated more than 100 times.

"But they are convinced. We

don't advertise blood donation

. It all starts with the fact that we don't have any agitation."
