Polish farmers, who are blocking traffic near the checkpoints with Ukraine, announced plans to continue the protest for another month - until April.
This was stated by the leader of the "Pidkarpatske oshukane selo" agrarian organization, which is blocking the "Medyka-Shegini" crossing point, Roman Kondruv, in a comment on RMF24.
"We are intensifying the protest action. Today I am going to apply (documents - ed.) to extend the protest for next month (protest - ed.), it will last until April. We will do it on a rotational basis: farmers will partly work in the field, and partly will stand at the border," Kondruv said.
He added that the protesters are not against Ukrainians, but only against the excessive importation of grain.
"We are being flooded with grain from Ukraine. They say that we are against Ukraine. We, farmers from all over Poland, were the first to extend a friendly hand and congratulate our brothers from Ukraine. And now they are harming us... We, as farmers, voted for Mr. Tusk We expected significant cooperation from him, not just promises," said Roman Kondrov.
He called on the Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, to come to the border and settle the situation in which the Poles blame the Ukrainian oligarchs.
"We opened the corridor of solidarity, and all sales markets were taken by Ukraine. Today we have nowhere to sell grain, and the Ukrainian grain that flows to us is technical grain that is harmful," Kondrov said.
The leader of the protest in Medicine also referred to the actions of the European Union. He stated that Brussels is not doing anything to resolve the situation. Kondrov expects that representatives of the authorities of Poland and the entire EU will arrive at the place of protests to put an end to it.
"They don't do anything about it. They probably want to escalate. If they didn't care, a commission would come here and listen to the farmers. In my opinion, such a commission should be created in Brussels, someone should come here to the border and talk to us. Of course , then these emotions would dissipate, as well as the queues at the border," says Roman Kondrov.
He also added that if their demands are not met, "it will be an international problem", because then the Poles will stop running passenger buses.
We will remind, on the morning of February 20, Polish farmers started a large-scale protest action, within the framework of which they want to completely block the border with Ukraine. Protesters shout: "This is Poland, not Brussels. I do not support Ukrainians."
Ukraine has already reacted to the action of Polish protesters. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the farmers' actions and stated that "the blocking of the Polish-Ukrainian border
has no justification."
Later, the protest of Polish farmers on the border with Ukraine expanded. Polish protesters blocked the railway near the "Medyka-Sheghini" checkpoint and scattered grain from the wagon.
