The Hungarian government supports Sweden's membership in NATO, Prime Minister Orbán said today to the Alliance's Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Orbán himself said on the "X" network, quoted by Reuters.
In a phone call, the Hungarian prime minister also assured Stoltenberg that he would continue to urge the Hungarian parliament to vote in favor of Sweden joining NATO and to complete ratification as soon as possible.
Hungary categorically supports Sweden's accession to NATO and will soon ratify its candidacy, Stoltenberg said in turn, BTA notes.
Stoltenberg called on Hungary to follow Turkey's example and admit Sweden to NATO
"I had a useful conversation with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Viktor Orbán (in Hungarian: Orbán Viktor) is the current prime minister of Hungary. I welcome the clear support of the prime minister and his government for Sweden's membership in NATO," the boss wrote in X of the Alliance.
"I look forward to ratification as soon as parliament reconvenes," he added.
