Stassi Cara is a guest on the show "On Coffee" today to get us up close and personal with the truth about voodoo dolls and voodoo practices in general. As a prominent film connoisseur, she points out that voodoo spells are actually often misrepresented in cinema, and perhaps that's where their notoriety comes from.
"The woowoo magic of the cinema has been recreated very badly," she says after her visit to New Orleans.
Kara also told the interesting story of a great woman for her time - Marie Laveau, known as the voodoo queen of New Orleans.
She is considered the woman who is the originator of all voodoo practice in the city.
She is a revered figure in New Orleans - the city is full of altars to her.
What's interesting about her is that she was an absolutely free black woman at the time, which was unheard of back then, in the days of slavery.
She was quite educated.
"She was a healer. They called her the voodoo queen, but she was all about healing people and helping them with good energy," says Stassi Cara.
Her mentor was Bayo John.
He has taught her many things, but they actually divide their territories.
She takes care of the bright and beautiful, and he protects from the dark and evil forces.
