The prices of retail fuels in our country have risen by between 3 and 9 cents over the last month, according to a price check at gas stations.

The Bulgarian Oil and Gas Association warns that the growth of fuels will grow due to the increased requirements of the European Union for the use of alternative and biofuels.

The industry warns that our country must take measures to avoid shock changes in prices.

Fuel prices have stabilized at the moment, but it is difficult to predict until then, according to the industry.

"The most general thing we can say is that we have returned to a world where every single geopolitical event affects the price of fuel," Svetoslav Benchev told BNT.

Fuel prices at gas stations are steadily rising

For the last two years, the price of the most popular type of gasoline A 95 has varied between 2.63 and 2.66.

In the case of diesel, the change is greater as the price difference is about 10 cents.

The price of fuel may rise by even more if transport is not included in Bulgaria's energy strategy.

According to the requirements of the European Union, member countries must gradually replace classic fuels with bio and carbon-neutral fuels.

"The necessary infrastructure must be built, it must be clarified what the fuels will be, which will be 100 percent carbon-neutral, I am turning off the electricity, there things are more or less clear, because the necessary technology exists," added Svetoslav Benchev.

The association has calculated that if measures are not taken in time, fuel prices in our country will rise sharply.

There are two cheaper options for switching to lower emission fuels.

"Quickly and without almost any serious investments, joint processing of bio-raw materials with mineral raw materials can be done, which is done in a number of Western countries," remarked Venelin Marinov.

"Bulgaria is still very sensitive about prices and the energy-poor represent a significant part of the Bulgarian population, so propane-butane and its many names, also known as autogas, can be a very good alternative for transition in the next ten years," stated Maya Blagoeva .

The BAS also has a study on the production of biodiesel from algae.

However, it turned out that it would be very expensive due to the price of the raw material, so it is not yet a solution for a country like Bulgaria.
